An unexpected death can be an inconceivable blow to the decedent’s family and close friends. It brings in its wake a sense of disbelief, which slowly transforms into feelings of regret, remorse, frustration and more. Since every person is different, grief also manifests itself in different ways in people. Some retract into a shell while others show signs of anger and depression. In some cases, a person is unable to come to terms with the loss and this can surface itself in a number of ways such as:

  • Sleeplessness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Constant frustration
  • Uncontrollable anger
  • Impact on physical and mental health

The Best Ways to Cope With Your Loss

Here are some things you can do:

  • Make it a point to maintain a healthy and well-balanced diet.
  • Get sufficient rest and sleep.
  • If you feel that you are suffering from any specific physical ailment, make it a point to visit your doctor and get the problem treated.
  • Speak with a close friend or relative. Expressing your grief can help you deal with it in a better way.
  • Maintain a regular routine and work just as you used to.
  • Spend time in the company of company of family and friends- this helps dull the pain you are feeling and over time you will be able to move back to normalcy.

If you feel that you are unable to discuss your feelings with family and friends, try to get the help of a professional counselor. Speaking to someone who is unrelated to you may help you get over the anxiety and distress you’re feeling.
