Our Favorite Ideas for Creating a Unique Service

Most families now prefer more unconventional or informal funeral services rather than the standard solemn events that used to be the norm. Today, people look to create a fond memory and plan services that are more casual and personalized and not necessarily "traditional" at all.

The idea behind this trend is to create a unique and memorable service that does justice to the decedent’s personality and what he or she believed in and enjoyed doing most.

How to Create a Unique Service

In fact, people are now consciously moving away from standard services and look for ways and means to create a unique atmosphere at the event. While every family will have some specific ideas about how they want the event planned, here are a few things you can do to create a unique service for the dear departed soul:

  • Play music that the decedent was particularly fond of. This is a great way to personalize the service and set the tone. People have even had favorite local bands/artists play at the celebration or service.
  • You can plan a celebration of life where all friends and family pay tribute to the departed soul and bid adieu in a personal and unique way. The event can be planned to reflect the life of your loved one, and his or her likes etc.
  • Ask all the attendees to share a memory or story related to the decedent. That’s a great way to honor the deceased and remember the good times you shared with the person.
  • Display a memorial table, photo memory boards, or a memorial video or even images of the deceased doing things they enjoyed most.
