What To Discuss During the Funeral Arrangement Meeting

Organizing and planning a funeral isn’t always easy and it can be a stressful time for the immediate family and close friends. However, if you are in charge of making the arrangements, here are some pointers that can help you know what to discuss during the meeting with the funeral director:

  • While you would have to make tough decisions while planning the funeral, you can start by deciding whether the decedent wanted a cremation or a burial. If they had pre-planned a funeral, they would have made mention of their preferences and you would have to follow those while planning the service. This is where a good funeral director can help you make better-informed decisions during this process.
  • That decision maker is also the person who would find all the relevant documents, settling the estate etc. In situations where an executor has been named before the person passes away, that individual would handle all the formalities. You can discuss all the details with the funeral director and he will help you plan everything in detail.
  • It doesn’t take long for funeral costs to add up, and it is important to keep a basic budget while you are planning one. During our discussion with the funeral director, make it a point to ask questions and get your doubts cleared. If you find that there are certain excessive expenses, have discussions with the professional to see how you can trim costs.
  • You would also need to discuss details such as the type of music you want, the flowers, photographs, reception plans etc. Create a simple list of these things when you are attending the funeral arrangement meeting.

If you would like to make an appointment to pre-arrange your funeral, or you need assistance on funeral-related matters or want to know more about our services here at Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home, contact us or give us a call at 318-640-1375 today.
