Technology and Your Grief Journey

Today, technology has infiltrated every aspect of modern living. In fact, it has also transformed the way in which people deal with the loss of a loved one and cope with their grief. Over the last few years, there have been a significant number of technological advances such as social media sites that can have an impact on the manner in which we move through our grief journey.

The Technology and Grief Connect

We at Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home have seen that many people today take the recourse of online communication when dealing with their grief. Here are some ways in which technology can be part of your grief journey.

1. Announcing the passing of a loved one

When a loved one passes away, it is important to find a good way to communicate or relay news of the demise in an efficient manner. While you would definitely inform family and close friends in person, you can use social media platforms to inform others about the death. This saves you the time and trouble of having to relay the same information to various people. Many credible funeral homes also post obituaries online on behalf of their clients.

2. How social support helps

When people hear news about a death on social media, they send in condolences caring words, and memories. These will be in the form of little notes, images, videos, etc. You also have the option to turn the decedent’s social media account into a memorial page.

3. Memorial websites

Today there are a large number of memorial websites that you can use to create an online memorial that can be accessed for a number of years. You can add tributes, and post videos as well as photos as a mark of remembrance. This is akin to visiting a gravestone and placing flowers on it. We at Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home create a lasting online tribute for each family we serve.

If you have any questions about online memorials, or want to know more about our services, please don’t hesitate to contact us for more information.
