Cremation Facts: Everything I Need to Know

Cremations are becoming more common than traditional burials because of the many positives they deliver. Besides being incredibly simple and inexpensive, cremation rituals are often environmentally clean. At Gallagher Funeral Home, we've been handling many cremations over the years. Here is a short guide to help you learn the fundamentals of the cremation process.

1. The Basics

Upon death, the family of the deceased calls us. We are responsible for arranging and conducting all the requisite particulars prior to the ceremony. Many families are eager to be present at the crematorium during the process, to perform ceremonies. This is possible with prior consultation. After cremation, the ashes are preserved in the urn and sent to the family. These ashes can then be preserved in different ways, depending on the choice of the family.

2. Ashes Retention

Ashes may be stored either inside or outside the family home. People usually bury the ashes in a grave or place the urn in a columbarium, to link a spot with that person's memory. Few may go for unorthodox means of scattering ashes in places of attachment or turning them into memorabilia.

3. Arrange a memorial service

The memorial service encourages the family to say goodbye and reflect together, with the loved ones of the departed. We offer full assistance in arranging a memorial service to meet your needs and specifications. You either select a funeral service before or after cremation based on your choice and comfort levels.

We at Gallagher Funeral Home are always here to help you and your loved ones. If you want to know more about Cremations, Memorial Services, or Funerals contact us at (318) 640-1375.
