It isn’t easy to see a close friend be fraught with grief after the death of a loved one. It is natural that you would want to help them in any way possible. But we at Gallagher Funeral Home have seen that when people are grieving, they react in different ways. It means that even when you are eager to support a friend, you must be mindful of their needs and act accordingly. Here we take a look at some of the things you can do in such a situation:

1. Offer Practical Help

Even when a person is grieving, they have to deal with the modalities related to the death and handle many processes during this time. Sometimes, they may need someone to babysit their child or watch their pet. They may have an elderly family member that needs looking after or might need someone to help with cooking for their family. You can offer assistance with some of these chores if possible.

2. Offer a Patient Ear and a Shoulder To Cry On

Every person is different and has different needs even when they are grieving. Some people need someone to listen to them and have many things to express when they are grieving. As a friend, you can be there for them and see them through this trying time. Friends can provide comfort and support in a way that family members might not be able to.

3. Provide Some Form Of Distraction

There are times when a grieving person needs to break free from their familiar environment to recover from their grief. You can do something to provide that much-needed distraction- for instance, you can invite them over to your place for some time or take them out for a long drive. These things give them a much-needed break which helps them move back to normalcy faster.
