Cremation has become increasingly prevalent in recent years. It is an age-old practice of burning the deceased’s remains until it is down to ashes. At Gallagher Funeral Home, we are always willing to answer any questions you may have about the process. One of the most common questions is whether people can have visitation and cremation.

Is it Possible to Have a Cremation and a Visitation?

Yes, it is possible to have both and there are two ways to approach this. You can either view the body soon after a loved one passes away and before the cremation occurs. You can also ask the funeral home to embalm the body for preservation. Both of these options allow some time for visitation.

When Should the Visitation Happen?

Organize the visitation quickly if you don’t embalm the body. It should happen as early as possible to ensure the body is still presentable for viewing. The funeral home will take care of the body by cleaning and dressing it before placing it in a display casket. This is a good option for a small and intimate visitation ceremony. Don’t wait for relatives to arrive from out of state or delay the event for too long.

If you choose to embalm the body, you can afford to wait for a few days. The funeral home will help you organize everything and ensure the body is ready for visitation. This a good choice for people who want to ensure most of their family members can see the deceased one last time before the final rights. It is a good idea to discuss the embalming process with the funeral home before making decisions.
